Computer Services
Collins computer services has been in business since 2003 and operates from Nenagh, in Co. Tipperary. I am a freelance web designer and also provide a repair computer service in the mid-west region of Ireland (mainly Tipperary and Limerick). I have over twenty years experience working in the computer industry, having worked for various companies. I have been employed as a technician, computer engineer, and technical trainer for Dell, Compaq and Apple among others. My qualifications include a diploma in electronic engineering, a bachelor’s degree in information technology (IT) and a master’s degree in Internet systems. The computer services that I provide can be divided into two main categories:
Computer services, repair and maintenance.
Web and computer services.
The computer services, repair and maintenance category include:
- The fault-finding and repair of all desktop computers.
- Complete maintenance computer services on all PC equipment.
- Computer services on all makes and models of laptop and notebook computers.
- Specific laptop repairs such as lcd screen replacement and power jack replacement.
- The upgrade of all PC related hardware.
- Microsoft operating system problems.
- Microsoft Office issues.
- Other application software relating to computer services.
- The removal of viruses, adware, malware and spyware.
- The installation of wired and wireless networks.
- One to one and small group training on basic PC use and Microsoft packages.
I can call out to the client’s home or place of business in the mid-west region and if possible carry out the repair there and then. In some cases the computer hardware will need to be repaired off-site in my workshop. In such cases, I will try to return the repaired device in 1-3 days, depending on the severity of the problem and the sourcing of spare parts.
The web computer services category includes:
- Choice and registration of Domain name: the choice of domain name for your website is essential as it should be descriptive of what your business does to maximize the potential search engine friendliness.
- Web hosting. The web hosting is where your web site’s code is housed and it is important that your choice of web hosting fits with the current size and the potential size of your website. It is pointless having GBytes of capacity that you will never use, but will still have to pay a premium price for. At Collins computer services, I buy good quality hosting and then resell it to my clients. Each site typically has 250Mbytes of disk space with up to 5 MySQL databases and up to 5 email accounts.
- Web site design and development. I have designed websites using WordPress, Concrete 5, Drupal and Joomla, which are all Content management systems (CMS) and I have also hand-coded using HTML, XHTML and CSS. Collins computer services will try to match the clients’ requirements with the best software available. My preference these days is for WordPress as it is easy to set-up, extend with plugins and for the client to manage into the future.
- Logo design. I tend to start the web design process with the clients logo as the website will be an extension of the logo with regards to styling and colour schemes. For clients who do not have a logo, Collins computer services can design sample logos to choose from.
- Search engine optimization and Internet marketing. Having a great website will count for nothing, if no one can find it on the search engines. SEO is the process of optimizing your web site so that the search engines will rank it well.
